After talking with my kids this morning, I decided I was very thankful for books. Books, how simple a thing that we often overlook. I love to read, but my enjoyment of it has tripled this past year seeing my kids excitment when they pick up a new book. My kids always want to read with their group, read with me, or borrow a book to read at home. How cool, if they want to read with me then by all means I will read with them. They have introduced me to some neat new books this year as they have set out to read anything I tell them is good.
Some really good ones we have read together include: The Graveyard Book, Holes, Sounder, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, and The London Eye Mystery. Oh, and did I mention that I read Harry Potter with them already? They have taken to that and talk with me about it all the time. Each Monday I hear about something they saw in a movie and asking me questions about the whole series. My favorite comment was where Sergio came up mad and started furiously talking about how Snape killed Dumbledore. "WHY WOULD HE DO THAT?" he yelled. We had a great talk and he is really wanting to try the books now. Leading up to the 7th movie, my kids told me daily that it came out in 10 days, in 4 days...asking if I was going to it. So cool to see them excited about more than video games. Today I came into school and they kept talking about the movie and that they wanted to read the book now. That was nice, I love that Harry Potter is causing my kids to read and move levels and just experience books in a new way. How cool is it that a 10 year old now would watch the movie then ask to read the book.
This is why I decided books and reading are something to be thankful for. I am just so thankful that they are there to make my kids happy.
