My grandpa is unique and special to me. Ever since he turned 70 a few years ago I started calling him the "old guy" and it just never went away. To me, he is not grandpa, but the old guy. He is a wonderful and special person to me and I love nothing better than to harrass him and laugh with him. He often harrasses me just as much as I do him and great stories usually come from things he says jokingly. One of those instances was today. Since he checks this sometimes, I thought there would be nothing better than for him to be surprised by his latest comment.
My grandma and I are throwing Steph a bridal shower tonight. When my grandpa first learned this, he told me it was ok only if he got a 10% commission on all the things she got. Typical. Today, we were setting up and Steph came to visit with them and grandpa did something unusual, he got Steph a shower gift. That is quite the opposite of taking commission. He gave her a Dustin Pedroia signed baseball. What? Well, if I back up my grandpa and sister are quite the baseball nuts. The rest of us fall close, but not as nutty. My grandparents actually know Pedroia's grandfather and they asked for a ball for Steph. Now, being me I asked if this next winter when they see his grandfather if they could get one for me too. Grandpa told me she got one because she had a signed ball collection. I mentioned that I had a Carlos Guillen ball from the 90's, so technically I had a collection too. Grandpa then said, in his matter of fact way, "what do you need another ball for? So you can fill your brassiere on both sides?"
Thanks Grandpa, now you owe me one. The world knows the story.
